I read the newspaper, but far, far less than I used to because virtually every newspaper has changed from a bearer of facts to an advocate of a slanted opinion, especially in the reporting of politics, which used to be labeled clearly in columns and/or on editorial pages only. I say this with authority, having experienced a 17-year career with The Associated Press that began in 1962 when newspapers were plentiful, AM and PM, and dedicated to simply reporting the truth. I have now limited my major city newspaper reading to the weekend only and primarily for sports results and humor. I am lucky enough to have a weekly, local newspaper, which still attempts to serve the public instead of influencing it. In my opinion, mnajor newspapers are slowly suffocating themselves. Truthful reporting of facts would be a breath of fresh air, but I think major city newpapers have a limited future.

We were often given assignments that required that we read a newspaper article and write a summary of what the article was about. I read the newspaper because...it is essentially the life line to my community. Reading my paper keeps me on top of what is going on, what news and events are shaping up, and sadly enough, keeps me informed of deaths in my community. One of my favorites though, is the garage sale listings for the weekend. With such a wealth of information, why would I not read my paper?

I read the newspaper because...I moved away from New Iberia,LA to Texas about two years ago. I miss the people and the hospitality Louisiana is known for, thank goodness I can cook all the delicious meals we are so accustomed to that cost and arm and a leg in Texas. I like reading the Daily Iberian everyday because it keeps me close to my roots and it never lets me forget that Iam a Cajun and that Cajuns are people too.

I read the newspaper because...it keeps me abreast of current happenings in my area and the state I live in. It informs me of upcoming events as well as what happened at past events. It lifts my spirits to see articles on people getting involved and working side by side with each other. It alerts me to be aware of the 'good' and the 'bad' in life today as it is happening. It puts me in touch with reality and changing times.

To stay informed on what is happening in my State and my Community.

I read the newspaper because... My husband is serving in the military, and we have lived out of state for the last eight years, but I still read our "home" newspaper online regularly. We know we will be retiring back to Louisiana in a few years, and we like to be informed about what is happening there. We care about its people, its resources, and its leadership. It will always be home to us.

I think everyone should read the paper because maybe these people would get it through there head that everyone in the world is not safe.
